Creating Electronic Texts to Support Literacy Learning Across the Curriculum
Thursday, October 18, 2007 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
There is a challenge for teachers of students with more significant special needs to create materials that are accessible and at a level appropriate for student literacy development. This workshop will demonstrate how one school for children on the autism spectrum addressed this topic. This workshop will outline the steps the school took; discuss the team-building approach that was involved in creating electronic materials; and demonstrate the materials and their uses across the curriculum and grades. Examples will be demonstrated across grades and curriculum areas. Participants will identify range of levels of texts needed in classrooms, identify how to construct electronic texts using understanding of beginning literacy development, and identify appropriate strategies to support use of materials across the curriculum.
